2017-P Boys Town $1 Centennial Silver BU (Box & COA)
Issued in 2017, this modern silver dollar commemorates the 100th anniversary of Boys Town. As a sovereign coin backed by the United States government, it represents the second of two silver commemorative pieces released by the U.S. Mint during that year. Struck at the Philadelphia Mint, the coin is composed of 90 percent silver and contains 0.7734 troy ounces of precious metal. The coin's design features a powerful narrative told through nature. On the obverse, a young girl sits by herself, looking up into the protective branches of an oak tree. This side carries the inscriptions LIBERTY, IN GOD WE TRUST, and the dual dates 1917 to 2017, alongside the poignant phrase, "When you help a child today..." On the reverse, the story continues as the oak tree fully extends its shelter over a family holding hands below, symbolizing a sense of belonging. The reverse inscriptions include UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, ONE DOLLAR, and E PLURIBUS UNUM, completing the phrase from the obverse with the words, "...you write the history of tomorrow."
