Struck at the Philadelphia Mint, this 2017 proof silver dollar commemorates a century of dedicated service by the Boys Town organization. The sovereign coin contains 0.7734 troy ounces of silver and represents the second of two silver commemorative pieces issued by the United States Mint during that year. The design on the front of the coin features a solitary young girl seated on the ground, looking up toward the protective limbs of an oak tree. This side carries the inscriptions LIBERTY, IN GOD WE TRUST, and the dual dates 1917 to 2017, alongside a poignant phrase about aiding a child today to shape the future. On the back, the oak tree takes center stage, spreading its branches to provide a safe haven for a family holding hands underneath. The reverse is inscribed with UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, ONE DOLLAR, and the traditional motto E PLURIBUS UNUM, completing a visual narrative centered on community, shelter, and healing.
