The 2017 Kennedy half dollar stands as a modern tribute to a legacy that has captivated the public for decades. Struck at the Philadelphia Mint, this fifty-cent piece features a brilliant uncirculated finish that highlights the sharp details of its design. The composition of the coin consists of an outer layer of copper and nickel bonded securely to a core of pure copper. On the obverse, the profile of John F. Kennedy faces left, accompanied by the inscription of the national motto, IN GOD WE TRUST, and the year of issue. This side of the coin bears the mint mark P, indicating its origin in Philadelphia, and features the artistic work of designer Gilroy Roberts. The reverse displays a powerful heraldic eagle clutching an olive branch in one talon and a bundle of arrows in the other, symbolizing both peace and defense.
