2017 South Africa 1 oz Silver Krugerrand SP-70 NGC

1.0000 troy oz .999 2017 SP - 70 (NGC)

In 2017, the South African Mint marked a major milestone by releasing its very first Premium Uncirculated Silver Krugerrand. This release celebrated the fiftieth anniversary of the famous Gold Krugerrand, which originally debuted in 1967 as the pioneer of global gold bullion coinage. To honor this half-century legacy, the silver edition was produced with a limited mintage of 1 million coins, each containing one troy ounce of 0.999 fine silver. The obverse of the coin displays the profile of Paul Kruger, who served as the first and only president of the nation. Surrounding his portrait are inscriptions of the country name, South Africa, written in both English and Afrikaans. This classic design links the modern silver issue directly to the historic roots of the series. On the reverse, a springbok antelope bounds across the landscape. Directly above the antelope, a special circular privy mark containing the number 50 denotes the golden anniversary of the coin family. The reverse also displays the 2017 minting year, the face value of 1 Rand, and details of the silver weight, with the inscriptions '1 OZ FINE SILVER' and 'R1'. Graded in Specimen 70 condition, this particular coin represents a flawless strike of a monumental numismatic first.
