The 2017 American Silver Eagle represents the thirty-first release in a celebrated annual bullion series from the United States. Struck from one troy ounce of 0.999 fine silver at the West Point Mint, this modern dollar coin showcases two of the most recognizable designs in American numismatics, preserved in an exceptional certified grade. On the obverse, the design draws inspiration from Adolph A. Weinman's classic 1916 Walking Liberty half dollar. It features Lady Liberty draped in the American flag, walking gracefully toward a rising sun. The inscriptions on this side include the year 2017 and the traditional motto, IN GOD WE TRUST. The reverse side, created by John Mercanti, features a powerful heraldic eagle positioned behind a central shield. In its beak, the eagle clutches a banner inscribed with E PLURIBUS UNUM, while its right talon grasps an olive branch. Above the eagle, thirteen stars are arranged in a triangular pattern, symbolizing the original colonies. The surrounding inscriptions confirm the country of origin, the weight of one ounce of fine silver, and the face value of one dollar.
