In 2018, the Casa de Moneda de México introduced a fascinating variation to its celebrated bullion series: the very first one-ounce Silver Libertad issued with a specialized antiqued finish. This distinctive treatment adds depth and character to a classic design, highlighting the intricate details of the engraving. With a limited production of forty thousand pieces, this release offers a unique visual perspective on one of North America's most recognizable coin designs. The reverse of the coin showcases the Winged Victory statue, a monument set against a backdrop of Mexico's legendary volcanic peaks. This imagery evolved from the original 1982 to 1996 design, which was inspired by the gold Centenario coin. Over the years, the Libertad series underwent design updates, most notably after 1996 and again following the 1999 releases, resulting in the refined presentation seen on this 2018 edition. On the obverse, the Mexican national coat of arms is prominently displayed, featuring an eagle perched on a cactus with a snake in its beak, encircled by the inscription "Estados Unidos Mexicanos".
