The 2018 edition of the Mexican Silver Libertad represents the thirty-seventh annual release in a celebrated series that first emerged in 1982. Struck at the historic Casa de Moneda de México and backed by the Banco de México, each piece contains one troy ounce of 0.999 fine silver. Over the decades, the series has undergone design evolutions, with the current visual layout established after changes following the 1996 and 1999 releases, departing from the original style that was based on the Centenario gold piece. On the obverse, the central focus is the modern National Shield of Mexico, encircled by the inscription "Estados Unidos Mexicanos". Surrounding this central emblem is a circular sequence of historical Mexican coats of arms, tracing the nation's symbolic heritage. The reverse features the Winged Victory statue, standing prominently against a background that depicts the two famous volcanic peaks, Popocatépetl and Iztaccíhuatl.
