This silver coin from Niue draws inspiration from the ancient Athenian Owl Tetradrachm, a silver piece that held immense influence more than two millennia ago. Struck from one troy ounce of 0.999 fine silver, this modern tribute features a specialized rim designed to allow multiple coins to be stacked securely on top of one another. One side of the coin displays a detailed owl perched upon a branch, set against a textured, hammered-style background. Beside the bird of prey rests a crescent moon and an olive branch. In ancient Greek mythology, this creature was closely linked to Athena, the goddess of intellect and strategy, serving as an enduring symbol of knowledge, strength, and deep insight. The design also bears the three-letter inscription AOE, representing the phrase Alethia Orno Eternia, which translates to Truth, Honor, and Forever. The other side presents the portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, created by artist Ian Rank-Broadley. This side also records the year of issue, 2018, and the face value of the coin.
