This impressive five-ounce silver coin belongs to the celebrated America the Beautiful series. Struck with a burnished finish at the Philadelphia Mint, the 2018 release showcases a substantial diameter that brings its intricate designs to life. The edge of the coin is specially incised with its purity and metal content, confirming its composition of 0.999 fine silver. The reverse side of the coin captures a serene wildlife scene, depicting a snowy egret poised gracefully at the edge of a salt marsh. This design honors Cumberland Island National Seashore, a protected haven established in the National Park System in 1982, a decade after its initial proposal in 1972. As the largest of the Golden Isles in Georgia, Cumberland Island is a place of incredible biodiversity, boasting 23 unique ecological communities that range from sandy beaches and dunes to freshwater lakes and marshes.
