The 2018-S Kennedy half dollar stands as a brilliant example of modern American coining, struck with a proof finish at the San Francisco Mint. This particular issue showcases the sharp contrast and mirror-like surfaces characteristic of the mint's proof production methods, highlighting the classic design elements that have defined this denomination for decades. On the obverse, the profile of President John F. Kennedy faces left, accompanied by the inscription "IN GOD WE TRUST" split across the lower field, with the date positioned at the bottom. The San Francisco "S" mint mark is also visible on this side. The reverse features a detailed heraldic eagle gripping an olive branch in one talon and a bundle of arrows in the other, surrounded by the inscriptions "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" and "HALF DOLLAR," along with the traditional motto "E PLURIBUS UNUM."
