This modern gold proof coin, minted in 2018 at the West Point facility, represents a distinctive chapter in American coinage. The obverse of the coin presents a groundbreaking depiction of Liberty, portrayed as an African-American woman. Designed by Justin Kunz, she is shown in profile wearing a crown of stars. On the reverse, a detailed bald eagle is captured mid-flight, accompanied by inscriptions indicating the coin's face value and gold purity.
