This modern silver round, struck in one troy ounce of 0.999 pure silver, serves as the fifth release in a series celebrating the historic entryways of Jerusalem. The piece showcases the Golden Gate, a structure built in the seventh century over ancient ruins using a Byzantine architectural style. Also referred to as the Mercy Gate, this famous portal faces the Mount of Olives. Though Sultan Suleiman the Magnificent rebuilt the walls in the sixteenth century, he sealed this specific gate in 1541, leaving it closed to this day. The front of the round displays a detailed forward-facing view of the Golden Gate, accompanied by inscriptions in both English and Hebrew that denote the year 2019, the metal purity, and the weight. On the back, a stylized artistic rendering depicts the various gates of the Old City nestled within the historic walls of Jerusalem. The reverse also bears the bilingual inscription 'Gates of Jerusalem' alongside the official logo of the Holy Land Mint, which guarantees the authenticity of this limited issue of only 1,800 rounds.
