The sheer scale of the coin provides an expansive canvas for one of the most complex and culturally significant designs in Mesoamerican history: the Aztec calendar stone. This ancient system tracked time through two overlapping wheels, combining a 365 day solar cycle with a 260 day ritual cycle. The reverse of the coin features an incredibly detailed rendering of the calendar stone, dominated by the central face of Tonatiuh, the Aztec sun deity. Surrounding this central figure are concentric rings of intricate symbolic iconography.
