2019 Netherlands 1 oz Silver Lion Dollar Restrike (BU)
In 2019, the Royal Dutch Mint issued a remarkable silver tribute to one of the most famous trade coins of the seventeenth century. This modern release is modeled directly on the original 1651 Lion Dollar, capturing the spirit of historic Dutch commerce in one troy ounce of 0.999 fine silver. Produced with a brilliant uncirculated finish, this issue had a restricted production run of just 15,000 pieces worldwide. The obverse of the coin displays a classic heraldic lion surrounded by a delicate beaded border. Alongside the 2019 year of issue, it bears the Latin inscription CONFIDENS. DNO. NON. MOVETVR, which translates to "He who trusts in the Lord does not falter." This powerful motto frames the central beast, echoing the design of the historical currency that once circulated across global trade routes. On the reverse, a standing knight is depicted in detailed armor. He holds a shield that proudly displays a rampant lion, a traditional symbol of strength. The coin was produced by the Royal Dutch Mint, an institution owned by the Dutch State that has held the exclusive right to strike and issue coins for the nation since 1807.
