This impressive five-ounce silver release from 2019 represents the second issue of that year in the America the Beautiful series. Struck in 0.999 fine silver with a burnished finish, this large-format coin bears the P mint mark, indicating its production at the Philadelphia Mint. The edge of the coin is specially incised with its purity and metal content, adding a unique physical dimension to its design. The obverse features the classic portrait of George Washington originally designed by John Flanagan. Surrounding the president are the familiar inscriptions of UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, LIBERTY, IN GOD WE TRUST, and the denomination of QUARTER DOLLAR. On the reverse, the coin honors the American Memorial Park located in Saipan, Northern Mariana Islands, which was established in 1978. The design depicts a young woman standing before the Flag Circle and the Court of Honor. This site serves to remember the Americans and local Marianas residents who lost their lives during the Marianas Campaign of June to July 1944.
