2019-W Reverse Proof Palladium Eagle PR-70 DCAM PCGS
In 2020, the United States Mint expanded its famous American Eagle bullion program by introducing its first palladium issue. Struck at the West Point Mint, this 2019 dated coin contains one troy ounce of highly pure 0.9995 palladium. It features a reverse proof finish, which creates a captivating visual contrast where the raised design elements are highly polished and mirror like, while the background fields have a frosted appearance. The obverse features a classic depiction of Liberty wearing a winged Phrygian cap, a design originally created by Adolph Weinman and first seen on the 1916 Mercury Dime. The inscriptions include LIBERTY, IN GOD WE TRUST, the 2019 date, and the distinct W mint mark indicating its origin at the West Point facility. On the reverse, an eagle is shown perched on a rocky outcrop. This powerful image, also designed by Adolph Weinman, has a long history, having been used on the gold medal of the American Institute of Architects since 1907. The reverse displays the face value of $25 alongside the inscriptions UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and E PLURIBUS UNUM. With a limited mintage of 30,000 pieces, this coin represents a fascinating intersection of classic twentieth century American design and modern precious metal minting.
