The 2020 American Silver Eagle represents the thirty-fourth year of the United States Mint's premier silver bullion initiative, which originally commenced in 1986 and continued its classic design pairing through 2021. Struck from one troy ounce of 99.9 percent pure silver, this modern dollar coin showcases two of the most celebrated designs in American numismatic history. On the front, the coin features Adolph A. Weinman's iconic Walking Liberty motif, a design that first appeared in 1916. Liberty is depicted moving gracefully toward the dawn of a new day, draped in the folds of the American flag. The legible inscriptions on this side include the year 2020 and the traditional motto, "IN GOD WE TRUST." The back of the coin displays John Mercanti's powerful heraldic eagle design, which draws inspiration from the Great Seal of the United States. The eagle holds an olive branch and arrows in its talons, shielded by a striped escutcheon. Hovering above the eagle are thirteen stars arranged in a triangular pattern, representing the original colonies that formed the nation. The surrounding inscriptions clearly read "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," "1 OZ. FINE SILVER," and the face value of "ONE DOLLAR," alongside the historic motto "E PLURIBUS UNUM."
