To honor this milestone, a remarkably scarce gold piece was minted, combining high-relief artistry with a proof finish. Struck from two ounces of 99.99 percent pure gold, this legal tender coin is backed by the Australian government and carries a face value of 200 Dollars. What makes this issue particularly compelling is its dual-sided celebration of the kookaburra. The obverse presents a classic scene originally created by Stuart Devlin, showing the bird resting on a tree branch. This side also incorporates the dual dates of 1990 to 2020, the monetary denomination, and a small portrait of Queen Elizabeth II as designed by Jody Clark. On the reverse, a different scene unfolds. A kookaburra sits perched on a corrugated metal roof as the morning sun begins to rise, sending stylized beams of light into the sky. This side bears the commemorative inscription celebrating the 30th anniversary of the series, alongside the weight, purity, and the traditional 'P' mint mark of the Perth Mint.
