While the silver Britannia series originally debuted in 1997, early versions from 1998 to 2012 were minted in 0.958 fine silver. The transition to the higher 0.999 purity standard began with the 2013 bullion releases, a purity level maintained in this 2020 edition. On the obverse, the coin displays the portrait of Queen Elizabeth II set against a complex guilloche pattern, a precise geometric design produced by the Royal Mint. The face value of 2 pounds is also inscribed on this side. The Royal Mint has been the official manufacturer of United Kingdom coinage since 1886, bringing generations of craftsmanship to this modern issue.
