The 2020 America the Beautiful series brings the sweeping landscapes of Kansas to life with this five-ounce silver coin. Struck at the Philadelphia Mint with a distinctive burnished finish, this piece represents the fifty-fifth entry in a comprehensive fifty-six coin collection celebrating natural treasures across the United States. It contains five troy ounces of 0.999 fine silver, with its weight and purity incised directly along the edge of the coin. The reverse design highlights the delicate ecology of the Tallgrass Prairie National Preserve. A Regal Fritillary butterfly is depicted resting amid towering stalks of Big Bluestem and Indian grasses, capturing the quiet beauty of this protected ecosystem. This side also features the inscriptions "TALLGRASS PRAIRIE", "KANSAS", "2020", and the traditional motto "E PLURIBUS UNUM". On the obverse, the familiar portrait of George Washington, originally created by John Flanagan, graces the center. Surrounding the first president's likeness are the inscriptions "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA", "LIBERTY", "IN GOD WE TRUST", and the face value of "QUARTER DOLLAR".
