The year 2021 marked a historic milestone for the United States Mint's premier gold bullion series. For the first time since the program debuted in 1986, a brand new reverse design was introduced mid year. This tenth ounce gold coin showcases the transition, presenting a fresh artistic vision while honoring the legacy of American coinage. On the obverse, the iconic figure of Lady Liberty walks forward carrying a torch and an olive branch. For the Type 2 release, artists restored intricate details from the original historic bronze cast, giving the classic image a renewed depth. Inscriptions on this face include the year 2021 and the word LIBERTY. The reverse debuts an entirely new design by Jennie Norris, featuring a highly detailed, close-up portrait of a wild eagle. This powerful image replaces the previous family of eagles motif used since the inception of the series. Alongside this striking portrait, the inscriptions read UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, E PLURIBUS UNUM, IN GOD WE TRUST, and the denomination of 5 DOLLARS.
