The year 2021 marked a significant milestone for the United States Treasury's premier gold bullion series. For the first time since its debut in 1986, the American Gold Eagle received a visual transformation. This tenth-ounce gold piece features the Type 2 design modifications, introducing a fresh reverse illustration and a refined obverse presentation. On the front of the coin, the iconic depiction of Lady Liberty walking forward with a torch and an olive branch has been updated. This version utilizes advanced technology to restore subtle details from the original historic bronze cast, offering a more precise rendering of the classic artwork. The year 2021 is clearly inscribed alongside the figure of Liberty. The back of the coin introduces a completely new design to the series. Replacing the original family of eagles motif is a highly detailed, close-up portrait of an eagle, created by artist Jennie Norris. This powerful image captures the intense gaze and intricate feathering of the national bird, representing the first major aesthetic update for the series in thirty-five years. Each coin contains exactly one-tenth of an ounce of pure gold, with its weight and purity fully backed by the United States government.
