2021 1/10 oz Gold Eagle (Type 1) (MD® Premier + PCGS FS®)
The year 2021 marked a major transition for the United States Mint's premier gold bullion series, making this particular issue a significant milestone. This one-tenth ounce gold coin represents the very last time the original, classic reverse imagery appears on the series before a mid-year design change. Struck at the West Point facility in New York, the coin contains 0.1000 troy ounces of actual gold content, minted with a purity of 0.9167. On the obverse, the iconic figure of Lady Liberty walks forward, a design adapted from the historic twentieth-century gold double eagle. The word LIBERTY is visible alongside the 2021 date. The reverse features the classic illustration by Miley Busiek, depicting a bald eagle soaring through the air, clutching an olive branch as it returns to its family in their nest. This familiar scene of the eagle family concluded its run in 2021, ending an era of American coinage design that began in 1986.
