The year 2021 marked a historic milestone for the United States Mint's premier gold bullion series. To celebrate thirty-five years of the program, which originally began in 1986, the mint introduced a completely new reverse illustration. This half-ounce gold coin, struck in 0.9167 fine gold, represents the debut of this fresh design era, designated as Type 2. On the obverse, the coin displays a modified version of the classic Lady Liberty design originally created by Augustus Saint-Gaudens for the double eagle. For this modern release, artists restored subtle details by referencing the original bronze cast, giving the figure of Liberty renewed depth and historical accuracy. The face of the coin is inscribed with the year 2021 and the word LIBERTY. The reverse showcases a highly detailed, close-up portrait of an eagle, representing the first design change for the series since its inception. This powerful image was created by designer Jennie Norris of the Artistic Infusion Program and sculpted by medallic artist Renata Gordon. Surrounding the eagle's portrait are the traditional inscriptions UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, E PLURIBUS UNUM, IN GOD WE TRUST, and the face value of 25 DOLLARS, alongside the metal weight of 1/2 oz.
