2021 1/2 oz American Gold Eagle (Type 2) MS-70 PCGS (FDI)
The year 2021 marked a major milestone for the United States Mint's premier gold bullion series, which first debuted in 1986. This particular twenty-five dollar coin represents the introduction of the Type 2 design, showcasing a completely transformed reverse illustration. For the first time in the history of the series, the reverse displays a highly detailed, close-up profile of an eagle, a modern masterpiece created by artist Jennie Norris. On the obverse, the iconic figure of Lady Liberty walks forward bearing a torch and an olive branch. While this image is adapted from the famous early twentieth-century gold double eagle by Augustus Saint-Gaudens, the 2021 Type 2 release restores historical elements. The United States Mint went back to the original historical bronze casts to recover legacy details that had been lost over decades of production, making this obverse closer to the artist's original vision than previous modern issues. Struck from one-half troy ounce of actual gold, this specimen has been certified in perfect Mint State 70 condition. The United States Treasury guarantees the weight and the 0.9167 gold purity of this piece, which stands as a remarkable fusion of classic American numismatic art and contemporary design.
