The year 2021 marked a major transition for the United States Mint's premier bullion program, introducing the first major design update since the series began in 1986. This ten-dollar gold piece contains a quarter ounce of fine gold and showcases a significant artistic evolution on both of its faces. On the front, the iconic image of Lady Liberty is presented with renewed clarity. While based on the classic early twentieth-century design by Augustus Saint-Gaudens, this Type 2 version incorporates refined details recovered from the original historical bronze cast. The inscriptions surrounding Liberty include the word LIBERTY and the date 2021. The back of the coin introduces a completely new artistic vision for the series. Moving away from previous family motifs, it features a detailed, close-up profile of a single eagle. This realistic portrait was created by Jennie Norris, a designer with the Mint's Artistic Infusion Program, and brought to life by sculptor Renata Gordon. Legible inscriptions on this side include UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, E PLURIBUS UNUM, IN GOD WE TRUST, and the denomination of 10 DOLLARS, alongside the metal weight of 1/4 OZ. FINE GOLD.
