The year 2021 represented a major milestone for the United States Mint, marking three and a half decades of its premier American Eagle coin program. To celebrate this thirty-fifth anniversary, a fresh design concept was introduced halfway through the year. This particular coin represents the debut of that highly anticipated Type 2 design, bringing a modernized aesthetic to a classic series. On the obverse side, the iconic figure of Lady Liberty stands tall, holding a lit torch in one hand and an olive branch in the other as symbols of guidance and peace. The year 2021 is clearly visible on this face. The reverse introduces a completely new visual, showcasing a detailed, close-up profile of an eagle's head, which was created by artist Jennie Norris. Crafted at the West Point facility in New York, this coin contains exactly one troy ounce of pure gold content within its overall composition.
