The year 2021 represents a major milestone for the United States Mint, marking the thirty-fifth anniversary of the beloved American Eagle coin program. To celebrate this occasion, a fresh design was introduced halfway through the year, giving birth to what enthusiasts call the Type 2 Silver Eagle. This coin contains one troy ounce of 0.999 fine silver and represents the first major design update since the series began in 1986. On the obverse, the coin retains the classic depiction of Lady Liberty, originally created by Adolph A. Weinman. She is shown draped in the American flag, moving gracefully toward the dawn of a new day. Legible inscriptions on this side include the year 2021 and the traditional motto, IN GOD WE TRUST. The reverse of the coin introduces the brand-new design for the series, featuring a detailed eagle in flight, grasping an oak branch in its talons as if preparing to land. This powerful new image replaces the previous heraldic eagle, signaling a modern era for one of the world's most recognized silver coins.
