This striking silver coin brings to life the terrifying legend of the loup-garou, a werewolf myth deeply rooted in Canadian folklore. Originating in France, the tale of this shapeshifting beast crossed the Atlantic with early settlers to New France, which is now Quebec. The folklore shares historical ties with the Beast of Gevaudan, a legendary creature blamed for numerous fatalities in the south of France during the eighteenth century. Struck from two troy ounces of 99.99 percent pure silver, the reverse of the coin depicts the snarling monster hiding within a dense forest. The detailed design captures the eerie essence of the wilderness where the creature was said to hunt. The obverse features the classic portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, designed by Susanna Blunt, alongside the face value of 10 dollars.
