The 2021 iteration of this celebrated series presents a heartwarming scene on its reverse, capturing a youthful panda cub happily munching on bamboo. This annual design variation has been a hallmark of the program since its inception in 1982, with only a single instance in 2002 where a previous year's design was repeated. The opposite side of the coin displays the magnificent Hall of Prayer for Abundant Harvests, a famous landmark located within Beijing's Temple of Heaven complex, bordered by Chinese characters translating to the People's Republic of China. Struck from 30 grams of 0.999 fine gold, this coin represents the modern era of the series. In 2016, the program transitioned from the traditional troy ounce system to metric measurements, making these 30 gram issues highly distinctive.
