Issued by the Royal Mint, this impressive five-ounce gold coin represents the ninth release in the celebrated Queen's Beasts Proof series. Struck in 0.9999 fine gold, the coin is part of a larger numismatic exploration of the ten heraldic guardians that stood watch during the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II in 1953. This specific modern release has an extremely limited presentation, with only 55 coins distributed globally in this format. The reverse of the coin displays the White Greyhound of Richmond, a creature historically linked to physical fitness, exceptional skill, and steadfast loyalty. Descendants of King Edward III originally utilized the greyhound as a badge, and the animal later became a prominent symbol for both the House of Lancaster and the Tudor dynasty. King Henry VII famously showcased the greyhound to assert and reinforce his ancestral right to the English throne. On this coin, the majestic dog is depicted holding its shield, a powerful image created by designer Jody Clark. On the obverse, the coin features the official portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, also designed by Jody Clark.
