2021 Mexico 1/4 oz Gold Libertad BU
The 2021 quarter-ounce Gold Libertad stands as a remarkably rare specimen in modern coinage, with a worldwide mintage limited to just 500 pieces. Struck in 0.2500 troy ounces of 0.999 fine gold, this brilliant uncirculated coin is backed by the Banco de México. Its origins trace back to the oldest active minting institution in the Americas, the Mexican Mint (La Casa de Moneda de México), which was established in Mexico City in 1535. On the front of the coin, the Mexican national shield is displayed prominently, encircled by the official inscription ESTADOS UNIDOS MEXICANOS. The reverse features the iconic Winged Victory statue, an enduring symbol of independence, set against a backdrop of the twin Mexican volcanic peaks, Popocatépetl and Iztaccíhuatl. Legible inscriptions on this side include ORO PURO, 1/4 ONZA, 2021, and LEY 0.999, alongside the historic Mo mint mark of the Mexico City Mint. This quarter-ounce gold format has been a staple of the Libertad series since its introduction in 1981.
