The year 2021 marked a monumental transition for the United States Mint's signature silver bullion series. This particular specimen, struck at the San Francisco Mint, represents the very first time the highly anticipated Type 2 design was released with the "S" mint mark. Struck with a brilliant proof finish, the coin contains one troy ounce of 0.999 fine silver and carries the official backing of the United States government. On the obverse, the coin displays the classic depiction of Lady Liberty draped in the American flag, gracefully striding toward a rising sun over a mountain ridge. This timeless illustration, originally created by Adolph A. Weinman, is accompanied by the inscriptions "IN GOD WE TRUST" and the date "2021." Turning the coin over reveals the major update that defines the Type 2 era. Replacing the previous heraldic eagle is a dynamic, lifelike scene of an eagle descending from flight, its wings spread wide as it carries an oak branch in its talons. This reverse illustration was developed by Emily Damstra and brought to life by sculptor Michael Gaudioso. The reverse inscriptions include "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," "ONE DOLLAR," "E PLURIBUS UNUM," and "1 OZ. FINE SILVER," alongside the distinct "S" mint mark. With a strict product limit of 200,000, this release stands as a landmark moment in modern American coinage.
