0.1000 troy oz .9167 2021 Proof

The year 2021 marked a historic milestone for the United States Mint with the introduction of the Type 2 American Gold Eagle. While the iconic coin program originally debuted in 1986, this specific release represents the very first time the reverse design has been completely reimagined since the series began. Struck at the West Point Mint, this 5 dollar denomination coin contains 1/10 ounce of actual gold weight, crafted from a durable 0.9167 fine gold alloy that incorporates copper and silver to ensure better wear resistance over time. On the obverse, observers will find a refreshed, updated rendering of the classic Lady Liberty design originally created by Augustus Saint-Gaudens for the 1907 twenty dollar Double Eagle. Liberty stands proudly, holding a lit torch in one hand and an olive branch in the other, set against a backdrop of radiating sunbeams. Legible inscriptions on the coin include the timeless phrases IN GOD WE TRUST and E PLURIBUS UNUM. The true highlight of the Type 2 coin is its entirely new reverse. Moving away from the original family of eagles motif, this design features an incredibly detailed, close-up profile portrait of a single eagle, created by artist Jennie Norris. Surrounding this powerful avian portrait are the inscriptions UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, 5 DOLLARS, and 1/10 OZ. FINE GOLD, marking a bold new chapter for one of the world's most recognizable bullion programs.
