The year 2021 marked a significant milestone for the United States Mint's premier gold bullion program, which originally debuted in 1986. This tenth-ounce gold proof piece showcases a major transition, introducing a freshly designed reverse side while breathing new life into its classic obverse. Crafted with a composition of 91.67 percent gold, the alloy incorporates small amounts of silver and copper to ensure the metal is highly resistant to wear. On the obverse, the iconic figure of Liberty stands holding a torch and an olive branch, a legendary depiction originally created by Augustus Saint-Gaudens. For this release, the design was carefully updated with enhanced details to more closely mirror the original artistic vision. The West Point Mint's "W" mint mark is visible on this side, signifying its origin of manufacture. The reverse debuts an entirely new portrayal of an eagle, designed by Jennie Norris and sculpted by Renata Gordon. This updated artwork is surrounded by the traditional inscriptions "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," "E PLURIBUS UNUM," "IN GOD WE TRUST," and the denomination of "5 DOLLARS," alongside "1/10 OZ. FINE GOLD." This particular specimen has been certified in an exceptional Proof 69 Deep Cameo condition, highlighting the sharp contrast between the frosted details and the mirror-like fields.
