This specific half-ounce gold coin showcases this historic update, struck with a brilliant proof finish at the West Point Mint and carrying a face value of 25 dollars. On the obverse, observers will find a refreshed rendition of the classic standing Liberty design originally created by Augustus Saint-Gaudens. This updated version incorporates enhanced details restored from the historical original, depicting Liberty as she strides forward holding a lit torch and an olive branch. The legend includes the traditional mottoes of faith and unity, alongside the stars of the union. The reverse presents the highly anticipated Type 2 design, a detailed close-up portrait of an eagle. This powerful image was designed by Jennie Norris and brought to life by sculptor Renata Gordon. It replaces the original family of eagles motif that had been used continuously since 1986, offering a modern and intimate look at the national bird. Struck from 0.9167 fine gold, the composition of this coin includes small portions of silver and copper. This traditional alloy, authorized by Congress when the program was established, ensures the coin is durable and resistant to wear while still containing exactly one half troy ounce of pure gold.
