The year 2021 marked a pivotal moment for the United States Mint's premier bullion program. For the first time since the series launched in 1986, a brand-new reverse illustration was introduced mid-year. This quarter-ounce gold coin showcases that historic transition, presenting collectors with the Type 2 design format that revitalized the visual identity of a classic American series. On the obverse, the iconic figure of Lady Liberty strides forward carrying a torch and an olive branch. This imagery is an updated rendition of the famous early twentieth-century design by Augustus Saint-Gaudens, restored with enhanced details to match the original artistic vision more closely. The West Point 'W' mint mark is visible on this side, denoting its origin of manufacture. The reverse displays the groundbreaking new artwork: a highly detailed, close-up profile of an eagle. This powerful portrait was created by Jennie Norris, a designer with the Mint's Artistic Infusion Program, and brought to life by sculptor Renata Gordon. It replaces the original family of eagles motif that had been used for over three decades. Struck with a brilliant proof finish, this ten-dollar denomination coin contains exactly one-quarter troy ounce of pure gold content. The composition is 22-karat gold, which is 0.9167 fine, alloyed with small amounts of silver and copper to increase the physical durability of the coin.
