2021-W 1 oz Burnished Gold Eagle Type 2 SP-70 PCGS (FDI)

1.0000 troy oz .9167 2021 PCGS

The year 2021 marked a monumental shift for the United States Mint's premier gold bullion series. For the first time since the inaugural releases in 1986, a completely new reverse design was introduced. This specific fifty-dollar coin showcases that historic transition, struck with a burnished finish at the West Point facility in New York and bearing the 'W' mint mark. With a strict limit of only 9,100 pieces minted, it represents a highly sought-after moment in modern American numismatics. On the obverse, the design looks back to the classic figure of Lady Liberty originally created by Augustus Saint-Gaudens. For this Type 2 release, the image of Liberty carrying her torch and olive branch has been refreshed with enhanced details recovered from the historical bronze cast. The inscriptions on this side include the year 2021 and the phrase 'IN GOD WE TRUST'. The reverse introduces a dramatic, close-up portrait of an eagle, a modern masterpiece created by Jennie Norris. This detailed gaze of the national bird replaces the family of eagles motif used for more than three decades. Accompanying this powerful new image are the traditional legends 'UNITED STATES OF AMERICA', 'E PLURIBUS UNUM', and the denomination of '50 DOLLARS' alongside '1 OZ. FINE GOLD'. This particular specimen is certified in perfect Specimen 70 condition and carries a First Day of Issue designation, indicating it was among the very first coins received for grading.
