The year 2021 marked a significant milestone for the United States Mint with the introduction of a newly redesigned American Silver Eagle. This modern release, struck in one troy ounce of 0.999 fine silver, represents the first major design update since the popular coin program originally debuted in 1986. Backed by the United States government, this sovereign one dollar coin showcases a refined proof finish, giving its detailed surfaces a striking, mirror-like quality. On the obverse, the coin presents an enhanced rendition of the classic Walking Liberty design, which was originally created by Adolph A. Weinman. Lady Liberty is depicted in mid-stride, draped in the American flag as she walks toward a rising sun over a mountain ridge. This updated rendering breathes fresh life into a beloved twentieth-century masterpiece, preserving its grace while sharpening the visual details. Turning to the reverse, the coin features an entirely new design created by Emily Damstra and sculpted by Michael Gaudioso. This Type 2 artwork portrays a powerful eagle in mid-flight, spreading its wings as it prepares to land with an oak branch in its talons. Visible on this side is the "W" mint mark, indicating its production at the West Point Mint, alongside the traditional inscriptions of "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," "ONE DOLLAR," and "E PLURIBUS UNUM."
