2021-W American Silver Eagle (Type 2) PR-70 PCGS (FDI)
The year 2021 marked a major milestone for the American Eagle coin program, celebrating its 35th anniversary with a significant design transition. Introduced in the middle of the year, this Type 2 coin represents the very first version of the updated Silver Eagle. Minted at the West Point facility, this piece contains one troy ounce of 0.999 fine silver and carries a face value of one dollar, backed fully by the United States government. On the obverse, the iconic depiction of Lady Liberty walking toward a rising sun continues to captivate observers. This classic design by Adolph A. Weinman was first introduced when the series began in 1986. The legible inscriptions on this face include the year 2021 and the timeless phrase "IN GOD WE TRUST". In contrast, the reverse showcases a completely new artistic direction. Created by Emily Damstra and sculpted by Michael Gaudioso, the updated reverse features a detailed eagle carrying an oak branch in its talons. This modern depiction also bears the "W" mint mark, signifying its production at the West Point Mint. Collectors can appreciate this coin in a certified Proof 70 Deep Cameo grade, highlighting the contrast and detail of this historic design update.
