The year 2021 marked a monumental transition for one of the world's most recognized silver coins. For thirty-five years, from its inception in 1986 until the middle of 2021, the American Silver Eagle maintained its original design pairing. This particular proof coin represents the historic shift, showcasing the highly anticipated Type 2 design update that breathed new life into the series. On the obverse, the iconic figure of Lady Liberty strides gracefully toward a rising sun, a classic representation based on the early twentieth-century work of Adolph A. Weinman. The legendary design is accompanied by the inscriptions "IN GOD WE TRUST" and the year "2021", alongside the "W" mint mark indicating its origin at the West Point Mint. While the original reverse design was the work of John Mercanti, this modern release introduces a completely fresh reverse illustration created by Emily Damstra and Michael Gaudioso. It depicts a detailed eagle in the process of landing, clutching an oak branch in its talons. This new artwork is surrounded by the inscriptions "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA", "E PLURIBUS UNUM", and the denomination "ONE DOLLAR", alongside the weight and purity notation of "1 OZ. FINE SILVER".
