The 2022 tenth-ounce Gold American Eagle represents a fascinating chapter in modern United States coinage, blending historic artistry with a fresh design direction. This five-dollar denomination piece is struck in 0.9167 fine gold, containing exactly 0.1000 troy ounces of pure gold. Certified in flawless Mint State 70 condition, it showcases the striking details of both its obverse and reverse motifs with absolute clarity. On the obverse, the coin displays the iconic depiction of Lady Liberty walking forward, bathed in the rays of a rising sun. This classic image is based on the famous 1907 Gold Double Eagle illustration by Augustus Saint-Gaudens. The design continues to serve as a powerful symbol of freedom and optimism, maintaining a visual link to the early twentieth century. While the obverse honors the past, the reverse highlights a significant modern update. For decades, the series featured Miley Busiek's depiction of a family of bald eagles nesting.
