2022 Israel 1 oz Silver Proof - Gates of Jerusalem (Zion Gate)
This modern silver release from 2022 represents the seventh entry in the Gates of Jerusalem series. Struck in one troy ounce of 0.999 fine silver, the proof round showcases the architectural heritage of Israel's ancient capital, focusing on a portal steeped in centuries of history. The front of the round depicts the Zion Gate from a forward-facing perspective. Constructed during the sixteenth century under the direction of Ottoman rulers, this entrance earned its name from its closeness to Mount Zion, though it is also recognized as David's Gate. The design captures the physical legacy of the site, which still bears the scars of gunfire from when Israeli soldiers fought there during the 1948 War for Independence. Text on this side includes the year, the metal weight, and the silver purity written in both Hebrew and English. On the reverse, a stylized artistic rendering illustrates the various entryways built into the ancient walls surrounding the Old City of Jerusalem. The bilingual inscription "Gates of Jerusalem" is featured in Hebrew and English, accompanied by the official mark of the Holy Land Mint.
