In 2022, a remarkable piece of numismatic history was revived in precious metal. This modern gold proof is an official restrike of the famous Utrecht Scheepjes-Schelling originally dated 1761. The Schelling itself represents a classic Dutch currency denomination first created in 1670. Known as the Ship Shilling, this specific type functioned as a trade coin with an official value of six stuivers, which equated to five cents. Struck from 11.29 grams of 0.999 fine gold, the coin contains 0.3630 troy ounces of pure metal. The obverse features a detailed depiction of a warship sailing with a flag flying from its stern, accompanied by the Latin inscription "ITA. RELINQUENDA. UT. ACCEPTA." On the reverse, the design displays the provincial coat of arms representing Zeeland, surrounded by the legend "MON. NOV. ARGEN. ORDIN. ZELAND." This limited release was produced by the Royal Dutch Mint, an institution founded in Utrecht that has operated under state ownership since 1807.
