The reverse side of the coin portrays Dr. Sally Ride positioned next to a window aboard the space shuttle. This imagery draws directly from her own reflections on space travel, recalling how she spent her off-duty hours gazing down at Earth. Inscriptions on this side include "DR. SALLY RIDE" alongside the traditional national motto "E PLURIBUS UNUM." On the obverse, a portrait of George Washington faces right, originally created by sculptor Laura Gardin Fraser to mark the bicentennial of Washington's birth.
