The 2022 half dollar from the San Francisco Mint showcases a modern continuation of one of America's most recognizable coin designs. This particular issue is struck in a proof format, a method that produces a sharp contrast between the frosted details of the design and the mirror like background fields. The coin is composed of a copper and nickel outer layer bonded to a core of pure copper, giving it a distinct weight and edge profile. On the obverse, the profile of John F. Kennedy faces left. This portrait, created by Gilroy Roberts, is accompanied by the inscription IN GOD WE TRUST and the mint mark S, indicating its origin at the San Francisco facility.
