2022-S Proof Silver Eagle PR-70 PCGS (First Day of Issue)
In 2022, the United States Mint continued its celebrated American Eagle series, which first commenced in 1986. This particular one dollar sovereign coin represents only the second time the San Francisco Mint has struck the updated Type 2 design in a proof finish. Containing one troy ounce of 99.9 percent pure silver, this specimen has achieved a perfect certified grade of Proof 70 Deep Cameo, indicating an absolutely flawless strike with intense visual contrast. The front of the coin showcases a classic depiction of Lady Liberty walking toward a rising sun over a mountain ridge, a celebrated composition originally created by Adolph A. Weinman. On the back, the updated Type 2 imagery features a detailed bald eagle descending with an oak branch gripped in its talons, a modern design illustrated by Emily Damstra and brought to life by sculptor Michael Gaudioso. This powerful reverse replaced the original heraldic eagle design that had been crafted by John Mercanti, marking a major evolution for the nation's signature silver coin.
