Introduced originally in 1967, the South African Krugerrand holds a special place in numismatic history as the very first modern gold bullion coin. The obverse of this brilliant uncirculated coin features a portrait of Paul Kruger, accompanied by the name of the issuing nation, South Africa, inscribed in both English and Afrikaans. The reverse displays the iconic springbok antelope, a national symbol of South Africa, alongside the 2022 mintage year and the weight of the gold. Struck by the South African Mint, each coin contains one troy ounce of pure gold. The composition is a durable alloy consisting of 91.67 percent fine gold, with the remaining balance made of copper, which gives the coin its characteristic warm, reddish-gold tone and enhanced durability.
