Introduced originally in 1986, the American Gold Eagle series has become a cornerstone of modern coinage. This 2023 issue contains one troy ounce of pure gold content, struck in a purity of 0.9167 fine gold. The United States Mint guarantees the weight and purity of this fifty-dollar denomination piece, which has been graded in perfect Mint State 70 condition. The obverse of the coin showcases a modified version of the famous Lady Liberty design by Augustus Saint-Gaudens. This particular rendition incorporates extra details restored from the original bronze cast, offering a fresh appreciation of the classic image. Legible inscriptions on this side include the word LIBERTY and the year 2023. On the reverse, a dramatic close-up portrait of a bald eagle commands attention. Created by artist Jennie Norris, this detailed bird of prey design was introduced as a refresh to the series in 2021. Surrounding the portrait are the inscriptions UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, E PLURIBUS UNUM, IN GOD WE TRUST, and the legal tender value of 50 DOLLARS, alongside the metal specifications.
