Unlike many bullion programs, the one ounce and fractional versions of these coins feature a freshly styled reverse illustration every year, making each annual release a distinct event for observers. This 2023 edition, struck from one troy ounce of 0.9999 fine gold, has achieved the highest possible grading of Mint State 70 (MS-70), representing a coin with no visible imperfections even under close inspection. The reverse of this 2023 issue showcases a kangaroo pausing to look back over its shoulder, set against a detailed backdrop of native Australian vegetation, including eucalyptus and grass trees. This side of the coin also incorporates several key inscriptions, such as "Australian Kangaroo", the 2023 year-date, and the weight and purity of the metal. For security, a tiny micro-laser engraved letter is integrated directly into the reverse design. The classic "P" mint mark of The Perth Mint, which stands as the oldest operating minting facility in Australia, is also present. On the obverse, the coin bears the effigy of Queen Elizabeth II, alongside the dates of her reign, 1952 to 2022. This side also displays the official face value of 100 Dollars, confirming its status as legal tender backed by the Australian government.
